Princess Pier, Torquay.

Princess Pier is a fantastic venue with an amazing number of species to be caught. It is one of the easiest venues to fish from in Torbay and has the benefit of a rail on the seaward side for safety and also a rod rest! Since the collapse of Rock Walk in 2008 parking is now along the seafront at Torre Abbey or in one of the many expensive car parks located nearby. New and old hand alike, Princess Pier rarely fails to surprise. In 2008, 15 species were caught in 6 hours!

Likely Species

Mackeral, Gar, Whiting, Pout, Wrasse, Pollack.

Chance of catching

Bass, Mullet, Bream, Silver Eel, Conger Eel.

Best Baits

Live worms, Mackeral strip, Squid.

Rigs

Pretty much anything goes. Lures and feathers will catch mackeral. Floats will catch mackeral, gar and wrasse. Bottom rigs will potentially catch any of the species listed.

Dangers

This is a working harbour, thus it is usually busy in the day. The harbourside is unguarded and you are not allowed to fish into it. it is not uncommon for the pier to become crowded in the summer day times so care is required when casting.

Directions

Princess Pier is directly behind Princess Theatre, Torbay road, Torquay. Depending on the time of year there is ample parking opposite Torre Abbey, less than ½ mile walk from the pier. Other times of the year, (May - Sept) you may have to pay and use a car park or walk a little further in the day time as there are restrictions in place for all the free parking at these times.
